Gerry was born in Gloucestershire in 1938, and
was interested in drawing and painting
since childhood. Alongside a successful career
in industrial design he developed his
talents as an artist, and as a result his
paintings of intimate landscapes and marine
subjects became widely exhibited in
galleries and mixed exhibitions both at home and
abroad. He carried out many commissions
for a wide variety of organisations including
Surrey Heath Museum, where there are two works in
the permanent collection. His work was also
reproduced as limited edition prints.
In latter years Gerry’s skills as an artist and
his ability to communicate gave him the
opportunity to teach drawing and watercolours
to artists at all levels, and he demonstrated
watercolour, line and wash, and acrylics to art
societies throughout the country.
In 1993 Gerry bought Brackendale Arts, an art
materials shop in Camberley, Surrey, which is now
owned and run by his daughter, also an artist.
His expertise in art materials and techniques is
now widely sought after, complementing his skills
as an artist.
Gerry died after a short illness in Dec 2008. He will be missed by all his friends and family.
